THE SHOW
Cycle / 年轮 is an immersive physical theatre experience exploring the profound connection between humans and nature, and the cyclical patterns that shape both. Inspired by the Chinese seasonal calendar, this non-verbal piece combines movement, breathwork, soundscapes, and storytelling to guide audiences through the seasons—mirroring the inner seasons of human growth, transformation, and renewal.
On stage, three performers trace the turning wheel of the year, from the fresh stirrings of spring to the fullness of summer, the shedding of autumn, and the quietude of winter. These natural rhythms become metaphors for our own emotional and spiritual journeys. Cycle / 年轮 doesn’t shout at its audience—it breathes with them, inviting them into a shared space of presence, reflection, and care.
Gentle, sensory, and participatory, the piece calls on us to reconnect with nature and with ourselves—not through fear of climate change, but through a felt relationship of reverence and responsibility.
THE JOURNEY
Cycle / 年轮 began its life as part of the company’s postgraduate training at Rose Bruford College. It was originally developed by Sanna Sálan, Su Peng, Roxana Muñoz, Alina Zhou and Susie Choi through a collaborative, practice-led research process exploring the 24 seasons of the Chinese calendar through physical theatre, and storytelling. The initial version was presented at Rose Bruford’s Symposium Festival in 2024, where it served as both a creative culmination and an invitation into further exploration.
Now, Cycle / 年轮 enters a new phase of development—with plans for further R&D and an upcoming public production. Alongside the performance, the team are building participatory workshops that offer audiences of all ages the chance to reflect on their own “seasons” of growth, change, and connection.
