Research Practice

My research practice is interdisciplinary, embodied, and process-led. I use research not as a fixed starting point, but as an active, evolving conversation between theory, material, movement, and lived experience.

I am particularly interested in:

  • Textiles, craft, and material culture as carriers of memory, resistance, and collective identity

  • Embodied research, where movement and physical experimentation generate knowledge

  • Socially engaged and community-led practices

  • Myth, history, and archival fragments as starting points for contemporary storytelling

  • Cycles, repetition, and labour — both human and environmental

My current research focus is “How can the storytelling of fabric and textile work inform modern storytelling in the theatre.” which was also the focus of my final research project for my Masters at Rose Bruford College. In 2026 I am hoping to undertake a practical, process-led research exploration of storytelling in textiles - learning to spin, quilt, waulk as well as other practices to have hands on experience of the fabric work and further investigate how it can influence theatrical storytelling.

  • Latin Epic Poets and their Weaver Counterparts: The Poetic and Metapoetic Importance of Weaving in Latin Epic Poetry
    Undergraduate Dissertation, University of Edinburgh
    An in-depth study of weaving as a metaphor for storytelling, agency, and authorship in classical literature, focusing on Arachne, Dido, and Proserpina. This research laid the foundation for my ongoing interest in textiles as a narrative, political, and embodied practice.

  • The Warp and The Weft – Independent Research Project Workbook
    MA Contemporary Theatre Directing, Rose Bruford College
    A practice-based research document exploring how the storytelling traditions surrounding weaving, quilting, embroidery, and fabric work can inform contemporary theatre-making. Structured through the stages of weaving itself, this research directly informed the creation of The Warp and The Weft and continues to shape my multidisciplinary and movement-led practice.
